As a marketer, you know that staying ahead of the game is the best way to keep your business leading the pack and continuously growing. Especially when it comes to technology.

So, as the AI revolution continues, it’s worth looking into one of the newest players in the game: Google Gemini.

Designed to compete with other generative AI models like ChatGPT, Google’s latest innovation promises to be a game-changer for businesses and individuals already using Google’s Workspace.

But what exactly is Google Gemini?

We’re glad you asked!

Today’s blog is taking you through everything you need to know about this new AI technology and how it can be used to boost your marketing game!

So, What is Google Gemini?

Formally Google Bard, Google Gemini is a family of language models developed by Google DeepMind, created to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

These models are the successors to programs, LaMDA and PaLM 2 and feature four different versions of Gemini:

  • Gemini Ultra — This is the most advanced of Google Gemini’s offerings, capable of handling the most complex tasks and coding. It’s ideal for research and large-scale data analysis. Expected to be available through Bard Advanced next year.
  • Gemini Pro — This model is a bit more versatile, designed to be used for general AI applications, much like ChatGPT is currently used. Widely available now.
  • Gemini Flash — Gemini Flash is ideal for low-latency tasks and designed to be fast and efficient. Available in public preview through Gemini API in Google AI Studio.
  • Gemini Nano — Nano is for mobile devices and, as such, is designed to be more compact and efficient than other Gemini models. It’s available now, integrated into the Pixel 8 Pro, and expected to be included in later models as well.

Google Gemini works by using advanced natural language processing (NLP) models, which are pre-trained and fine-tuned to complete specific tasks. These models use huge amounts of data and algorithms to both understand and generate human-like text.

Google Gemini vs. ChatGPT

So, now that we've compared them, how does Google Gemini stack up to OpenAI's ChatGPT?

To start, ChatGPT is an application of the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) models developed by OpenAI.

It specifically uses these models to create a conversational AI capable of interacting with users in a chat format. While GPT models like GPT-3 and GPT-4 are the underlying technology, ChatGPT itself only applies this technology to generate human-like dialogue, making it an app rather than a model.

Google Gemini, on the other hand, is a family of language models. Unlike ChatGPT, which focuses primarily on conversational tasks, Google Gemini is designed to boost functionality across the apps in Google's Workspace, offering AI-powered tools and features that improve productivity and user experience.

How Does Google Gemini Work?

These Gemini models will be integrated into a variety of Google services, including Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Workspace, and Google smartphones like the Google Pixel 8 Pro.

Google Gemini will be a clickable tool to give users the option to boost functionality through the power of artificial intelligence (AI) features.

How do I Get Google Gemini?

  • Computers and Laptops —To get access to Google Gemini, you must first have a Google Workspace account. Sign up if you don’t already have one, and then download Google Gemini. Its models will be automatically integrated into your workspace. Once you have it, just click Digital Assistant to open up Gemini and simply type your prompt into the pop-up text box provided.
  • Pixel 8 Pro — Pixel 8 Pro users can access Gemini Nano by going to the settings on their phone, enabling AiCore, and turning on Smart Replies in the Gboard settings. This will enable Gemini’s features, allowing you to use it for things like smart replies and audio summarization.

This deeper understanding makes Gemini useful for helping you identify the right keywords and phrases that will make your content more likely to rank higher in search results. Just provide Gemini with your target keywords and the context of your content and it is capable of generating suggestions for additional relevant keywords and phrases to optimize your content and boost your SEO performance.

6. Increased Efficiency

Of course, being able to quickly summarize data, create personalized content, and have all of the information you need to make informed decisions, saves you and your team valuable time

And that’s the whole point! By using Google Gemini to streamline your workflow and reduce manual effort, you can save your time and energy for the more strategic tasks that help you drive your business forward.

More results with less effort is always a win to us.

Best Practices for Using Generative AI in Marketing Campaigns

An AI computer chip, for best practices for using generative AI in your marketing campaigns.

As with using any type of artificial intelligence in your marketing campaigns, there are some considerations you should take:

  • Data Privacy — Always prioritize the protection of customer data and keep privacy regulations in mind to keep your customers safe and build and maintain trust.
  • Maintain Brand Voice Consistency — Give any AI-generated content a once-over to make sure that it reflects your brand’s unique tone and message.
  • Continuous Monitoring and Refinement — Regularly review and fine-tune any AI-generated content to make sure it’s on-brand, consistent, and effectively engaging your audience.
  • Ethical Use — Use AI responsibly and avoid creating or distributing content that is misleading, incorrect, or harmful.

And, as always, we want to remind you that, as useful as generative AI tools like Google Gemini are, they can’t (and shouldn’t) be used to completely replace your writing staff.

While AI can be a convenient tool, it’s best used to complement your writers because it’s human writers with human intelligence who truly understand your audience and are capable of creating the compelling narratives that you need to elevate your brand.
