The life of a Designity Creative and Creative Director is an exciting one!

There’s different clients in a variety of different industries and the chance to tackle unique projects and bring them to life. But have you ever stopped to wonder what exactly goes on behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly?

The answer is Designity’s Customer Success Manager (and a familiar face from our social media videos!), Joey S.!

Joey’s job is all about making sure our clients get the most out of their Designity experience and he’s a natural pro at getting it done!

So, if you’re curious how Joey made the leap from public relations and healthcare to connecting with clients at Designity, then we’re here to fill you in! Today’s blog is an exclusive sitdown with Customer Success Manager, Joey, to give you a chance to learn more about his story and get to know the guy behind the Designity client experience!

What’s your origin story? How did your career get started?

I studied Communications at the University of Delaware, not knowing exactly what I wanted to do with that.

I started my career in Public Relations working in the consumer healthcare space. I then moved into the Customer Success/Account Management space, where I discovered that I really care about the success of my clients and that they feel they’re getting value from the service being provided.

That’s what fuels me every day.

How did your career lead you to Designity? What stood out to you about the company?

I’ve always been a creative person, not so much in design, but in things like music, storytelling, and professional wrestling (but we’ll get to that later).

I loved writing, shooting, and editing funny videos with my friends. When I encountered Designity, the creative aspect stood out to me. The service felt unique and I was excited by the chance to work with tons of clients in all different verticals.

So, what exactly does a Customer Success Manager do at Designity?

A Customer Success Manager at Designity ensures clients are maximizing their return on investment.

I chat with clients to deeply understand their needs and how Designity can help fill those needs. I am constantly assessing the health of our clients, making sure they see the value in our work, addressing any issues, and seeing how we can prolong the partnership.

How is customer success at Designity different from other roles you’ve had?

At Designity, I get to be more strategic and think outside the box for creative solutions.

Client issues don’t have a one-size-fits-all solution. I’m looking at things on a case-by-case basis and working with the team to develop a strategic plan.

What’s been the most rewarding part of your role so far?

When a client really sees the value in the work we do and decides to upgrade or switch their billing cycle to yearly, it shows their commitment and makes my heart sing! Those are the moments I feel most proud.

What do you think makes for a truly great customer experience?

It’s a number of factors beyond my role.

When a client really vibes with a Creative Director, understands how the platform works, and appreciates the value provided, it results in a great customer experience. It’s a team effort!

What do you like best about working at Designity?

The ability to make an impact.

Our wonderful CEO truly listens to what the team says and if something isn’t working or needs to be updated, we can swiftly make those changes.

What’s your favorite part about working with people?

As an extrovert, I get energy from speaking with people.

Being able to solve someone’s issue is rewarding for me. Have you ever given advice to a friend, then they took the advice, and it worked out?

What a gratifying feeling! I get to do that every day (sort of). Just connecting with people is my favorite part.

How do you handle challenges while keeping things positive?

I have such a positive mindset and outlook on life that even when faced with challenges, I try to see the silver lining.

It helps me stay cool as a cucumber in stressful situations. Part of my role is sometimes delivering not-so-great news to clients, but bringing a smile and a solution goes such a long way.

How did you end up being the star of so many Designity social media videos?

I've always enjoyed making funny videos with friends and have a knack for public speaking.

When I was tasked with making a video for clients, it came out great but lacked the production quality. Once we had a professional camera involved, the quality improved and we were off to the races.

The Designity marketing team is also great at writing comedic scripts, which helps a ton.

If you weren’t in customer success, what do you think you’d be doing instead?

Perhaps I’d work at the New York Times, helping to construct the daily word games (Wordle, Connections, Strands, etc.).

I love games, particularly word games.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

When I'm not working, I love spending time with my wife, friends, and family.

You can find me on the trails of a beautiful New Jersey hike or trying to find the best chocolate chip cookie in NYC. I love warm weather and craft beer. Maybe I need to move further south!

What’s a fun fact about you that we should all know?

On the weekends, I’m a professional wrestler.

It’s something that I wanted to do since I was a child, and I followed that dream. Now, I wrestle in front of thousands of people each month. I’ve traveled the country for a decade wrestling in front of live crowds and entertaining fans. I’ve had the opportunity to do some “extra” work for WWE and AEW (the two biggest wrestling companies in the world).

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Get comfortable with change.

Now, more than ever, technology is evolving how we work. Designity is constantly evolving and improving. Change isn’t always easy, but the more you can lean into the change and embrace it, the more success you’ll have.
