When it comes to competing for your audience’s attention on social media or any other online platform chock full of other ads and distractions, nothing beats a good eye-catching visual.

The trick is, once you’ve gotten your audience’s attention … how do you relay the message you want to send in a way that gets your content a click or even a second glance?

The answer is, of course, stunning and impactful design.

And this is where a surprising hero emerges! Midjourney is an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) tool that is capable of creating realistic and visually stunning AI-generated images, perfect for turning your wildest ideas into works of art and getting your brand the attention it needs.

So, whether you’re looking to enhance your ad design, make social media posts that wow, or just breathe new life into your brand’s visual game, Midjourney offers you a way to do it that’s easier than you might think!

Interested?

We are too! Today’s blog is your guide to using this powerful AI tool to boost your visuals and give you the impactful design you need to resonate with your viewers and win them over to your brand!

What is Midjourney?

Midjourney is an AI image generator, much like DALL-E and Stable Diffusion, and is well-known for its ability to create highly realistic and stunning visuals based on text prompts provided by users.

To use Midjourney, a user would simply provide a text prompt (like “wizard doing intense work on a computer") and Midjourney’s natural learning algorithm would then process the prompt and, within seconds, create an image that matches.

What prompt you give is completely up to you. You can include anything from asking for an image in a specific style or characters completing specific actions (within reason).

Midjourney’s Key Features

If you aren’t familiar with Midjourney just yet, here is a list of key features to show you what to expect:

  • Text-to-Image Generation — Midjourney images are high-resolution and detailed, making it perfect for marketing collateral that needs to stand out.
  • Your Limit is Your Imagination — You can ask Midjourney for just about anything you can think of and refine as you go to bring your vision to life.
  • Adapts to Style — Midjourney is capable of imitating any style, whether it’s that of a famous painter, a comic book sketch, Disney cartoon, doodle, or whatever you need.
  • Easy Refinement — Midjourney generates multiple images from the same original prompt, making it easier for you to select images that better fit your artistic vision to download or refine from there.
  • Active Community — Midjourney has an active community on its Discord server, making it easy to share prompts, ideas, and artwork with others.
  • Ease of Use — Despite the complicated mechanics behind the scenes, Midjourney is very easy to use. Simply type your prompt, wait a bit, and get your images.
  • Requires Discord — Midjourney is operated from a Discord server, so if you want to use it for images, that’s where you’ll need to start (more on how to get started later!).

How Marketers Can Use Midjourney to Elevate Their Visual Identity

It’s an exciting and advanced piece of technology, for sure. But how can you, as a marketer, use this generative AI tool to improve your visuals and get your brand some much-needed attention?

We’ll take you through 7 different ways, starting with …

1. Branding

The visual aspects of your brand are a very important thing and if you want to stand apart in the market and be instantly recognizable to your target audience, then those visual aspects have to stand out.

Luckily, Midjourney can be a game-changer for those who want to elevate their visuals and start being more consistent on your website, social media, or advertising campaigns.

Whether it's a design for a new logo, a fun and engaging new mascot, a distinctive color scheme to set you apart, or perhaps compelling imagery for your collateral, Midjourney makes it easy to test and perfect your style from the conceptualization phase to those last finishing touches.

2. Engaging Visuals for Social Media Posts

You probably already know that if you want to engage an audience on social media, you’ll first need to rise above the noise and get their attention.

Midjourney is useful for creating the stunning, surreal imagery you may need to stand out amongst the usual distractions on social media, stop the scroll, and get your target audience to stop and take a second look.

Whether it’s stylized images of your products or “out there” backgrounds for your updates and news posts, type up what you’re looking for on Midjourney’s prompt and get instant access to wild, “have to take a second look” visuals for engaging social media posts that your audience will love.

3. Custom Illustrations

Midjourney is also an excellent tool for the custom illustrations you need to break up text and keep your print and collateral easy to understand and effectively guiding your viewers to the CTAs you want them to see.

Consider using Midjourney illustrations and icons for things like brochures, your website, social media posts, how-to guides, and more to improve their visual appeal and keep your audience’s eyes on the prize.

Be sure to tailor your Midjourney illustrations to your brand guidelines and have it create in the style you wish, whether it’s hand-drawn illustrations, blueprints, 3D graphics, or anything else to liven up your marketing print and collateral.

4. Hyper Realistic Photos

Midjourney is amazing at generating hyper-realistic photos that are the perfect touch for enhancing sections of your website or social media.

Type up what you’re looking for in Midjourney, share some information about your brand style and colors, and see what the AI can do!

Add your new high-quality AI renderings to your product descriptions to better showcase what you have to offer or personalize your About Us page to humanize your brand and amp up your engagement.

By having a more attractive and appealing website, you can increase dwell time and boost your conversion rates.

5. Ad Design That Commands Attention

In the same way you want to stop the scroll on social media, you want to get the same impact for your digital ads.

Ads that make potential customers take a second look are ads that get clicks, after all, so it’s important that you get that all-important second look!

Fire up Midjourney for visuals that use vibrant colors, dynamic compositions, and other unique elements to make ads that stand out, showcase your products in the most compelling way, and get your brand the attention it deserves.

Whether it’s for banner ads, social media ads, or even traditional print, Midjourney can give you the visuals you need to command attention.

6. NFT Creation

NFTs are making a comeback this year, so why not get on board?

If you'd like to create an NFT (or a collection of NFTs) for your brand but you're not sure how, then Midjourney is the perfect place to start. Use Midjourney to ideate on potential NFT styles, by providing it with your brand guidelines and prompting it to explore different concepts to help you find the unique design that could set your brand apart in the NFT marketplace.

And once you've settled on a design, Midjourney can help you refine it as well, making the art side of NFT creation much more accessible for even the greenest of designers!

7. Streamlining the Design Process

Because Midjourney can create images in seconds and requires no pencils, papers, or hours poring over layers and effects, it can naturally speed up your design process.

Use Midjourney for things like comparing different styles for ad or collateral design, moodboarding, or even conceptualizing the visuals that best convey your brand identity and the unique value you bring to the table.

Whether it’s just comparing different concepts for your designers, or making bigger-picture campaign decisions, Midjourney makes it easy to test and refine your style as you go, freeing up your team for other tasks that need their focus.

Midjourney Best Practices

But before you start cranking out those images and spicing up your campaign, it’s a good idea to remember that there are some rules, regulations, and ethics regarding Midjourney and any other AI content creation tools. There has already been some controversy regarding AI, so first brush up on the following best practices to make sure that you aren’t unintentionally participating in illegal or unethical behavior as you create your images:

  • Respect Copyrights — This should go without saying but … well, we’ll say it anyway. Avoid using prompts that recreate copyrighted artwork or even mimic a distinctive style of any living artist without their permission. You should also be cautious when it comes to using any other brand names, logos, or images protected under trademark law.
  • Transparency — It’s also a good idea to disclose when your images are AI-generated, especially if you’re using them in public or commercial settings.
  • Data Privacy — You can input data into Midjourney but be careful that what you input (like personal photos or information) does not infringe on anyone’s privacy or expose sensitive data. We’re still on the internet, after all.
  • Bias and Representation — Be mindful of existing potential biases in AI-generated content and be sure to use images that promote diversity and inclusivity.

But Midjourney Isn’t All You Need for Impactful Design

All in all, Midjourney is a powerful tool for image generation and a game-changer for accessibility in design.

But, despite how useful Midjourney is and despite how stunning its visuals look, it's still just a tool. On its own, it won’t be enough to give your visuals the boost you’re looking for. This is because, as advanced as AI is, it's still unpredictable. It’s difficult to keep consistent as well, even when using the same Midjourney prompts for your visuals.

Because of this inconsistency, what you really need is a human designer to be able to use Midjourney to its full potential. That's because, as great as Midjourney is, it lacks the intelligence and spark that a human uses to create visuals that are not just appealing but resonate with people and evoke the kinds of emotion you want them to feel.

So, overall, Midjourney can be a very useful tool in the right designer's hands. But only a human designer has the emotional intelligence, strategy, and ability to recognize a target audience and it’s these elements that you’ll need to truly refine your visuals and take them to the next level.
